The city of Malaga offers numerous incredible areas to explore and live in. One of the most exclusive and valued areas is Malaga East. In this post, we present five reasons why investing in a property in Malaga East is an excellent decision.

We hope that they will convince you!

1. Large villas with sea views in Malaga East

The area of Malaga East is oriented towards the sea. It has a wide promenade full of great beaches, beach bars and marine atmosphere. Within this bright area, the villas are especially spacious and charming. Those located in Monte Sancha, El Limonar and Pinares San Antón stand out.

Some of the villas in this area have a stately, noble air, with palatial architecture; while others are completely contemporary. There is even the possibility of taking advantage of their beautiful garden and remodeling the adjoining living area. In general, the whole area is elegant and quiet.

2. Historic area of Malaga with large tree-lined avenues.

It has always been a sign of distinction to live in Malaga East. In fact, the real estate development of this area began in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Initially, it originated in the construction of showy residences for the wealthy bourgeoisie of Malaga. Many of these fortunes came from the flourishing iron and steel, textile and chemical industries of the time.

Later, little by little, summer villas werebuilt as well for wealthy individuals from all over Spain. They wanted to enjoy the benefits of the Costa del Sol climate and its sea. To see some of those centenary constructions, you can visit the old “Villa Rosalía,” now converted into the Limonar 40 events restaurant. Some of the first villas remain today, but other have been renovated or converted into apartment blocks.

3. The best restaurants outside the city centre, are in Malaga East.

Gastronomy is one of the strengths of Andalusia. Malaga is one of its greatest examples. The city centre is full of restaurants, bars, small wine shops… But one of the reasons to buy a property in Malaga East is that it is the second place in Malaga where to go for a great gastronomic experience.

Fish is the star product. Let us think for a moment that Malaga is a very active fishing area and the markets and fish markets, which supply to the restaurants, have fresh fish on a daily basis. Among the restaurant options in the East we highlight: El Candado Beach, El Caleño beach bar and, for sushi, Misuto. It is reassuring to know that, for those who do not love fish, there are also meat, Italian or vegetarian options, among other.

4. Very picturesque and strong local traditions

Malaga is a city full of life. It has an overflowing calendar of regular festivities and occasional activities. The most popular, among other, are the Carnival, Easter, La Feria (The Fair) and Christmas. However, the festivities of the patron saint, the Virgen del (Virgin of) Carmen, and the Night of San Juan (St. John) are particularly intense in the eastern area, which is so closely associated with the sea.

In July, the Virgin is carried in procession to the shore of the Mediterranean, where she is boarded on a “jábega” (a typical fishing boat) and accompanied by other boats. After blessing the sea, she returns to her hermitage. The celebration extends to such neighbourhoods as Pedregalejo, Huelin and El Palo, in Malaga East, with music and devotion. Sailors and faithful, dressed in traditional clothing, seek protection and comfort from the Virgen del Carmen, a beloved figure in the region.

The Night of San Juan, celebrated at the end of June, marks the beginning of summer. Bonfires are lit on the beaches of Malaga where objects or wish lists are burned. Some wash their faces in the sea at midnight to attract eternal beauty. These simple and fun rituals invite you to enjoy with the people of Malaga their joy and traditions.

5. A step away from the centre, but much quieter.

There is nothing like being able to choose. Malaga East is close to the centre and that adds to the advantages of this vibrant area. It is so close that you can walk, take a short bus or taxi ride, or drive briefly. It is possible to walk along the Paseo (Alley) de Reding, through the so-called Nuevo Túnel de (New Tunnel of) la Alcazaba, in complete safety. You would end at the central Plaza de La Merced (with the house where Picasso was born). You can also choose to go to the centre via the park road that goes to the main Alameda (Boulevard) of the city; or, there is a third way, the Paseo de los Curas that runs parallel to the park and the port.

We say that there is nothing like having a choice, because, if you do not want to go down to the centre and its bustle, it is not necessary. Malaga East offers a world of tranquillity not comparable to other areas of the caty. There is more greenery, more sea, less building density and more stately avenues. At the same time, it is well supplied with services, allowing to remain comfortably in the bubble of the elegant east of Malaga.
